By studying the work of a traditional german shoemaker, we learnt a lot about the depth and work involved in trade, as it was 80 years ago. Today less than 1% of boots produced are welted, and few of those are made with hand-stitched double welt (Storm welt, not Good year). We've opted to design this boot with a storm welt that goes all around, for a sturdier and more waterproof boot.
When working the sole, these crafted FJ boots are first pegged by wooden pegs, and then reinforced by metal tacks, focusing on strengthening the front and mid-part of the sole. This extra strength of the sole was not applied in all period FJ boots, however, we wanted to give extra attention to preserving the sole as much as possible, before having to resole
In order to go full authentic, the best vegetable tanned leather was sourced and dyed in black. The hide is not grained and left au naturel. The boots are finished off in rectangular thick leather laces.
The key features that make this pair a true copy are all present:
We've copied the best features from more than ten FJ boots that we studied, and packed them into one. Try to find an FJ boot that is packed with all these features. We'll wait.
