Historical Info about the m40 German Tropical Trousers for Afrikakorps

In 1940, the Wehrmacht needed a lightweight uniform for the summer period. By 1940, the Germans needed to help out their retreating Brothers-in-arms, the Italians, along the North African Campaign. The study of Tropical clothing by the Germans was very limited. Based upon the study of the University of Hamburg, the Wehrmacht used results deducted from Asian tropical environments, and hence a cotton twill uniform in green was developed. 

Very popular with Army personnel in the Mediterranean region and the Balkans, this tropical uniform was also extensively used the Deutches Afrikakorps along the North African Campaign, from 1940-1943.
